Maddie.

I am in a weird place in life right now. I don't really like the term "weird", but I honestly have no idea how else to describe it. For those who do not know, I just got done with a bizarre/wack/very surreal reality tv show experience and still have yet to decide if the positives will outweigh the negatives. I am having a very hard time enrolling back into school because I for one have NO idea what I want to do with my life. My problem? I cannot commit to anything. Can there be a risk taking major anyone? See, that is something I would excel at. I can be impulsive, crazy, and adventurous. But I cannot for the life of me be organized, planned, committed. I can't pick a major. I can't settle on just one thing because of the fact that I want to do everything, and before my realist friends or parentals finally sink into my brain that thinks I can do everything, I am sitting pretty on Cloud Weird.

If I don't settle on one thing, just one, I will go crazy. I think clinically insane. AND, since it is pretty clear that me settling in a location, with a person, on a major, into college, etc, etc... isn't going to happen, I have settled on Maddie.

Maddie. A gorgeous five month old cocker-border collie mix. She is perfect for me. High in energy, ridiculously adventurous, and still at the end of the day, a cuddler.

So, expect a ton of status updates, blogs, twitpics, and you name it on my new commitment. My SOLE commitment. It is going to be one fun ride.

  1. stick with school...even through the 'fame'. avoid delaying school for 3-5years in tv challenges and bar crawl appearances like some past alum who lose focus of the real real world.

your major in the end will not make a whole lot of difference, but getting the degree itself will. if you want variety, add a minor or find a multi-disciplineary major that lets you take a larger variety. undergrad majors are a choose-your-own-adventure path; even if you jump between paths, make sure to cross the finish line and get the BA/BS. major doesnt define the rest of your life.

  2. And the best advice for someone adventurous in college:

Whatever you do, before you graduate, study abroad. Pick somewhere you don't know much about and travel there.

  3. You should get a creative writing degree and then stay busy writing about all your adventures! Or maybe journalism and become a travel writer - I bet you'd like that!

Or skip the degree - just get a job that challenges you and surround yourself with people who love you.

  4. Felicity, I like your idea. :)

And anonymous, I plan on traveling abroad somewhere new. No worries there. And it is more of an issue of finding classes that I can be motivated to go to and not feeling like I am wasting my time. That is the dilemna of picking a major I like.

  5. okay. class will always be a bit of a time waster, but i totally see your point. its tough. took me a long time to hone in on a topic. maybe science mixed with something like anthropology?

enjoy your last days of anonymity and not hearing "hey, aren't you that girl from mtv" for the next few months ;)

  6. Emily,

I had the pleasure of meeting you when you first moved into the D.C. house (little did I know you we're filming the Real World at the time, lol). I think your an extremely nice, well rounded and real person from what the previews have shown me and how you interacted with me when I met you. I hope you enjoyed D.C., I'm from the Maryland area and I know we enjoyed having you stay :)

Good luck with the college and major choices. I know its a hard choice to make. I luckily found my passion when I was in high school and I'm about to graduate with a bachelors in film! But I wish you the best in finding what you love to do :)

Enjoy your new doggie, I have 3 dogs of my own and their all amazing.

Best wishes! Hopefully we have the chance of running into each other in the future! :)

    Take care!

  7. I cannot tell you what to or not to do...life is a crazy ride...and if you're lucky the positives will outweigh the negatives.
You will find the passion of life within yourself and in everything around you.
All I can say is that things tend to work out the way they are supposed to.
The best advice I can give was given to me by my hero, my dad, was to go with the flow.

  10. i happen to catch the first episode of real world dc last night while trying to fall asleep, and i must say that you were an instant favorite. i haven't followed real world in God only knows how many years but i look forward to being entertained by this current season. thanks.

oh, do not wreck your brain while being unable to commit to anything at the moment. in due time, a certain subject will prove to be more interesting and fulfilling than others.

    happy 2010.

  11. Hey Emily,
I just have a quick question for you, what do you like doing most? I wanted to be an embassador but I ended up working in IT. I would like to know if I could help out in any way.

  15. stick with school. you don't want to be like 'real world wes' (fellow missourian) running a yogurt shop, do ya?

  16. I agree on the stick with school thing. granted i dont know you but if your interests are something like sports and nutrition consider dietetics as a major. I'm a dietetics major and I love it, theres sooo many different areas you can go into, just a thought. good luck love :)

  17. did you ever think that picking a major is the real risk at hand? the real adventure here? just because you pick a major doesn't narrow you down to one job. so, pick something you enjoy, you strike me as the exercise science or criminal justice type. you want adventure? get a career with the fbi or go into military or if you're really into athletics be a sports performance trainer. you aren't tied down forever, you have a whole life to live. but what i do know is getting some kind of degree now is best. but if you're a risk taker through and through maybe the way to think about it is to think that this is a risk, it's a jump, that only you can take ;)

  18. Well Hi there, my name is Katie Leverentz and I truly feel your pain with school and everything. I attend a state school in PA and I play soccer and I'm pretty dam good, but I'm almost done with my soph year and i have no clue what I want to major in. But i really want to stay in school and play soccer but I also don't know what to do and if i should stay and give up soccer and thing about what I want to major in.

I'm an athletic tomboy and I love going to beach and being outside. but its hard to find a major to have everything you love in one.

but i feel like a dog is a really good thing :) it's the one best friend you know won't leave your side and who you can play with everyday and say anything to.

hope you figure out life, it's a tough thing but we can get through it
